I started my career in the volunteering sector in 1995, leading the Kensington & Chelsea Volunteer Bureau which became renowned for its ability to generate new business and pioneer new ideas. These included the controversial campaign 'the nation's second favourite pastime' which received international recognition, and a virtual volunteer bureau, a pilot for a national project to follow.

I then went to YouthNet UK to set up the country's first listings website for volunteering opportunities and to lead their consumer marketing and communications. do-it.org.uk was launched by Tony Blair in 2000 and has since become a key recruitment tool for many volunteer involving organisations.
After YouthNet I spent a couple of years as an assistant director in the Home Office active communities directorate, the forerunner to the Office for Civil Society, where I led on community participation policy and programmes, advising the Home Secretary and junior Minister on all aspects of volunteering, and managing a major grantspound. I also co-established and ran the Russell Commission, a review of youth volunteering which led to the formation of the v charity which is still going today.
In 2006 I set up Red Foundation a social enterprise and one of the UK's first to promote volunteerism, providing training and consultancy services to help organisations to work with and involve volunteers. I ran the agency until successfully merging it with the Attend Academy in 2011.
I founded i-volunteer as a small beta site in 2009. Based on an idea I'd had a few years before, this beta led to full scale pilot in Sept 2010 and we are due to relaunch it as ivo.org as a new venture in late 2011.
I've been a trustee and a coach for a few years now, supporting both local and national charitities and third sector leaders. I've recently joined the advisors of an exciting new project called The Great British Community, celebrating the diversity of our country and the huge benefits it brings to wealth of the nation.
I'm also keen to find a new trustee opportunity, ideally within a London based, national organisation with a youth focus, so am open to offers!
I would also consider taking on a volunteer coaching client, again London based.
